Biographical / Historical

Born in Spartanburg in 1967, Michael Guest was appointed as ambassador to Romania by President George W. Bush in 2001 and served in the position until 2004. He was the first openly gay man to be a senate-confirmed ambassador. He retired in 2007, after serving over twenty-five years as a diplomat. In 2008 Guest co-founded the Council for Global Equity, which aims to promote LGBT-fair policies world-wide.
