Biography

Born in 1951, Jimmy Gibbs is a native of Spartanburg County. He is the husband of Marsha H. Gibbs. In 1972 Gibbs started Gibbs Machinery in Spartanburg, buying and selling textile equipment. In the 1980s the company expanded overseas and was renamed Gibbs International. Gibbs and his wife are well known in the community for their charitable giving, donating funding for the Gibbs Cancer Center, the Marsha H. Gibbs Field House at Converse College, and Gibbs Stadium at Wofford College. In 2012, the Spartanburg Kiwanis club named Gibbs the Citizen of the Year.
