Biography

A native of Union County, South Carolina, Mary Wilson Gee was born in 1874. She was part of the first class to graduate from Converse College in 1893. Upon graduation, Gee was hired by Converse College as a Latin professor. She later became a dean of the college in 1917. Including her years as a student, she spent seventy-three years of her life attending, working, and residing at Converse College. Counseling over seven thousand students, Gee was a beloved member of the Converse faculty. She died on August 13, 1963 and is buried at Grace Methodist Church in Union.
